Police reported they were notified by a individual who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A senior official said the incident left him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
